March 31, 2017 - April 2, 2017
- KEYNOTE, 12:30 – 1:30 The Out-of-Sync Child Grows Up: Sensory Challenges in Adolescence Many children with autism resist participating in everyday activities or respond in unusual ways to ordinary sensations of touch and movement, sights and sounds. Having a hidden disability called Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), these kids don’t behave as we expect – not because they won’t, but because they can’t. As they grow into adolescence, so do their sensory issues. With recognition and support, out-of-sync teenagers can become more competent and confidant at home and school.
- BOOK SIGNING, lunchtime
- BREAKOUT SESSION, 1:45 – 2:35 From Breakfast to Bed: Strategies to Get through a Sensory-Soaked Day Three-dimensional, hands-on, body-on activities help children with autism develop sensory-motor skills, as well as language and social skills. Using simple equipment such as paper plates, plastic bottles, and bicycle inner tubes, participants will learn enjoyable strategies to get kids moving and learning, communicating and interacting.
